Carmine & Vinny Appice are on tour now with Drum Wars. The two brothers have 80 years of recording experience between them. It should be interesting to kick back and check out this show. I can’t wait to see Carime and Vinny try to one up each other at Vamp’D.
The Appice’s got it started with “CHRISTINA”, a good way to start the night. Vocalist Paul Shortino came out with bassist Mikey Bones and guitarist Ryan Mckay to tackle a couple of Dio songs. They did a real good job on “HOLY DIVER” and “WE ROCK” before they exited the stage. The brothers did a crazy version of “MEET THE FLINTSTONES” and Carmine took a solo to appease the fans.
Shortino, Bones, and McKay returned to help out on a pair from Rod Stewart. The band did a good job on “HOT LEGS” and “DO YOU THINK I’M SEXY”. Though most of the band is used to playing metal, but they surprised me with how well they sounded.
Vinny pounded out hard and heavy on “LADY EVIL” and “CRAZY TRAIN”. They ended the set with an amazing drum workout. Carmine even played what looked like a drum head with strings or a banjo with no neck, which was pretty good way to close.
The crowd at Vamp’D yelled for more until they all returned for a rowdy version of Quiet Riot’s “METAL HEALTH” . Appice Drum Wars was a great live experience.
